    Improving Your Vision This Year

    Improving Your Vision This Year

    Improving Your Vision This Year

Our vision is one of the most important senses we have. It allows us to view colour and appreciate art, it allows us to see the faces of the people we love, and it allows us to read stories and immerse ourselves in different worlds.

You might think that our eyesight is a sense which will deteriorate on its own over time with nothing that we can do, but this isn’t the case. In fact, there are plenty of ways that you can improve your vision this year to ensure you can enjoy the little things in life for longer. To avoid needing Glasses 2 You in your twenties or thirties, here are some tips to help you improve your vision this year.

    1. Eat your vitamins and minerals

Vitamins A, C, and E are hugely important to our eyesight and they can allow our macular to stay stronger for much longer in life, which in turn keeps our vision strong. Minerals such as zinc will also work to do this and it is important that we get enough of it in our systems.

If you are hoping to add these vitamins into your diet for the healthier pair of eyes, here are some foods to focus on:

    • carrots
    • broccoli
    • Spinach
    • Sweet potato
    • Lemon
    • Berries
    • red peppers

    1. Carotenoids

One ingredient in particular which is found in foods such as carrots and leafy vegetables are carotenoids. These are a nutrient which is found inside the retina of the eye and help us to see. This is why we are always told when we are children that carrots will help us see in the dark, because it will actually strengthen our eyes. You can take carotenoids as a supplement for stronger eyes and make sure to get plenty into your diet too.

    3. Get moving

Maintaining a healthy weight and staying lean is a key to happiness and healthiness in all aspects of the body, and our eyesight is no different in this respect. When we gain weight we are more likely to develop health issues such as type 2 diabetes, and this can cause damage to the blood vessels in our eyes. The reason for this is that we have too much sugar running through our blood and this can cause damage to tiny blood vessels making it hard for us to see. Keep your sugar levels down and stay healthy in order to keep your eyesight.

    1. Take your medication

If you have a chronic illness which you suffer from on a day-to-day basis such as high blood pressure, you need to keep it maintained if you want to avoid damage to the eyes. Inflammation in the optic nerve can cause a lot of pain and can even lead to vision loss, and this can be an effect of not taking your medication every day.

    5. Protect them

If you are playing a sport or you are swimming in the sea, make sure you protect your eyes with some goggles or glasses. Our eyes can be sensitive to light, pressure, bacteria and debris so it is important to keep them covered and protected when we are doing strenuous activities. And of course, never forget to wear sunglasses on a bright and sunny day!

8 Great Home Business Ideas to Try in 2018

    Home Business

If you’ve been looking for a way to make some extra money but spending more time away from home just isn’t feasible, you’re in luck. The digital world has made it much easier for today’s ambitious individuals to work from home without much stress. While you will need to sort your own self-employment taxes out, the benefits of earning an extra income definitely make up for the extra work.

To help launch your strategy for a side-business in 2018, we’ve put together our list of the best things to try this year. Remember, these are specifically chosen because you can do the job either part-time or full-time.

    Home Business

    • Website Consultant

It’s hard to come across a business today that doesn’t have its own website. Most sites take a lot of time and effort to build and maintain. However, if you know a thing or two about designing and hosting, then you could earn a lot of money offering your services as a website consultant. You can design graphics, maintenance services, and even copywriting all from your own home.

    • Virtual Assistant

If you like the idea of being someone’s assistant, but you’re not impressed by the concept of running around and getting coffee all day, then a side-job as a virtual assistant could be perfect for you. Many companies appreciate virtual assistants today because a digital worker can save them overhead costs and equipment expenses. You can either work as a general assistant or become a specialist if you have a background in sales, marketing or IT.

    • Babysitting or Childcare

Babysitting is an age-old profession, and not something that’s reserved specifically for teenagers who want to make some extra cash. As long as there are parents out there who need to take a break from the kids at times, there will always be new opportunities to make money from babysitting. The best way to improve your chances of getting work is to generate word of mouth by launching a social media site and asking for reviews.

    • Domestic Cleaning

Cleaning and tidying houses might not be the most exciting side-job in the world, but it’s something that almost anyone has the skills to do. In a world where most people struggle to keep up with their careers, their kids, and tidying their home, domestic cleaners are becoming increasingly popular. If you can launch your own website and social media channels, then you’re sure to find work quite quickly. Cleaning also has minimal overheads, so it’s easier than you’d think to start making money fast.

    • Tutoring and Education

You don’t necessarily need to be a trained teacher to work as a tutor, but you should have an in-depth knowledge of a particular subject. A degree in your chosen topic can be a great way to earn clients by showing them that you know what you’re talking about. Thanks to the internet, if you have knowledge to share, you can find students all around the world, and work with them over webcam and social sharing tools. You could even approach schools in your local area to find out whether there’s any specific need for your services.

    • Create a Pop-Up Café/Restaurant

Popup eateries are rapidly growing in popularity these days. Not only are they a great option during summer, but they can also thrive during the winter too if you find a location and food that people love. Whether you only turn up at festivals, markets, and seasonal events, or you try to make a living from your café every weekend, it’s a great way to make some extra cash doing what you love. What’s more, so long as you have a van or gazebos, you won’t have to worry about paying the huge overhead costs of buying a restaurant venue.

    • Repair Computers

In a world packed full of technology users, there is still only a handful of people out there who actually know how to repair a computer when something goes wrong. If you happy to be handy with technology and you know your way around laptops, tablets, or smartphones, you could make a great income as a part-time repair technician. Devices can be very expensive to replace, so a little bit of marketing could be all it takes to attract customers to your new business.

    • Be A DJ

Finally, if you’re a music fanatic then you don’t even know how to work a set of decks to become a DJ today – all you need is a laptop. Setting up your own DJ business is easy enough, and you can work from home to create your set lists and market your company. You’ll also be able to choose which events you want to play, so your schedule is totally up to you.

    Explore England This Summer

    England

    England

The May Bank Holiday marks the start of summer, and for many people enjoying the sun, they’ll be getting itchy feet wanting to explore the best of the UK – maybe even packing the car with a tent and going camping, summer is a great time to explore the great outdoors and take advantage of the wonderful nature this country offers.

Today, most people head abroad for their holidays but with the weakened pound many people are choosing to holiday at home this year and explore this often unappreciated country.

This article aims to uncover some of the best destinations within England that offer an enriching experience suitable for all the family.  Indeed, if you’re planning to travel around as a family, it might be worth looking at the new smart forfour which is an incredibly economical option for summer road trips.

    Here’s three of our favourites…

    1. YORK

York is one of the most beautiful cities in England, with old cobbled streets, ghost walks, proper fish and chips, and a plethora of gastronomic options to delight any foodie.  It’s classy yet cosy, compact yet characterful, and is a wonderful place to have as a base for visiting the county of North Yorkshire. Near to York, you have the Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors.  There’s the rugged coastline and seaside town of Scarborough to explore and so much more in between.

    1. CORNWALL

Cornwall, located at the Southern tip of England is a mecca for family camping holidays along with surfers and artists.  Of course, Newquay is known for the place where college kids take their first trip, leading to a somewhat chaotic vibe of drunk people filling up campsites and the streets at 2am… yet, when you get away from Newquay, even just a few miles, you have some of the most dramatic scenery in England, such as Bedruthan Steps.

Cornwall is relatively small, and within a couple of days, you can explore the whole county.  One place to stop off at, for sure, is St Ives, that has a beautiful harbour and a number of art galleries including Tate St Ives.

Then, over in the quaint fishing port of Padstow, you can sample some of the world’s leading fish and chips from celebrity chef, Rick Stein and then burn off the calories by taking a surf lesson on the world-famous Fistral Beach.

    1. LAKE DISTRICT

Lancaster is just below the area known as the Lake District, and is one of those places people pass on the motorway, but few people take the time to explore this fascinating Heritage City.  Lancaster is steeped in history and boasts one of the oldest (and most haunted) castles in England, which was a functioning prison until recently.

The Lake District has a reputation for being one of the wettest parts of England, hence the name, and whilst it does get a little wetter than most places, there’s something about going for a walk on a mystical mountain covered in fog, then cuddling up next to a log fire in a cosy pub tucking into a hearty steak and ale pie that’s insatiably rewarding.

Keeping Down Car Costs: How Can It Be Done?

    Keeping Down Car Costs

Our cars give us so much freedom, but there’s no denying how expensive they are. For most of us, our cars are a big drain on our finances with a large part of our monthly budget going towards them. While the costs are unavoidable, there are definitely things you can do to help keep them down. Here are a few ideas.

    Keeping Down Car Costs

    Research Before You Buy

When you’re buying a car you have lots of boxes to tick. Chances are you want a car within a certain age range, a particular style, the right safety features and much more. But even if you find a car that checks every box, research before you buy. See if there are any issues with the model, what the average kind of repair prices are and if there are lots of similar complaints. Even if it doesn’t put you off enough to not buy the car, at least you’re aware of it and can plan for any likely repairs.

    Shop Around for Insurance

It never makes sense to be loyal to an insurer. When your renewal documents come in the post, it can be easy to just accept what you’re given so you don’t need to mess around. But do this and you can lose out on potentially hundreds over the course of the year. Always check and see the best price you can get, sites like GoCompare make this so easy. At the very least you could ask your current insurer to match the price, they often will so they can keep you as a customer. Better money in your pocket than theirs, just for the sake of a quick search.

    Be Wary of Emissions

Here in the UK, road tax is determined by how kind your car is to the environment. For this reason, electric cars are road tax free. It’s always worth checking the car you’re going to buy first to see how much this is. It can be a good few hundred pounds a year in some cases. It can actually make more sense to pay a little more on a car that gives off fewer emissions as it will save your wallet (and the environment) over the years that you have the vehicle.

    Save on Fuel

Once you’ve bought your car, taxed it, insured it and everything else you still have the ongoing cost of fuel to deal with. And fuel doesn’t come cheap so this isn’t something to overlook. You can save on fuel by planning ahead, work out your journeys to avoid being stuck in traffic or taking lots of shorter journeys. Use a fuel prices app which will show you the cheapest places to buy too. You can even convert cars to run on LPG gas, it’s completely legal and can save you thousands over the course of your car’s life. LPG is less than half the price of diesel and petrol, so is a great choice especially if you do a lot of miles.

Interiors Not Passing The Test? Perhaps You’re Asking The Wrong Questions

When it comes to getting our houses the way we want, most of us opt for traditional methods. We head to the store and come home with reels of tester wallpaper and endless tiny pots of paint. We stick, slick, and slime our walls to get some idea of how each style would work. And, even after that, some of us struggle to get a decent idea.
Let’s be honest; a tester strip of paint in the corner is rarely judgement enough whether it would work in the whole room. What’s more, you then have to put up with a wall which looks like a beauty blogger’s arm. No matter what way you look at it, endless swatches of test colours aren’t the ideal interior choice.

    Pxhere Image
But, you’d be wrong to assume you’re stuck with options like these. By thinking outside the box, it’s actually possible to get a much more comprehensive idea of how design choices will work. All you need to do is make use of options like these instead.

    Sketch

So, you want to know how to get your bedroom looking the way you want it? Why not do a few sketches of the space to get an idea? Even if drawing isn’t your thing, this could be a fantastic way of getting an exact idea of what you want. Even the most basic of sketches can help you decide whether you want a feature wall or not. This option could also help you decide between paint and wallpaper, as well as giving you ideas of colours. If that red will be too dark in the space, your sketch is sure to show it. What’s more, you get to have fun colouring. What’s not to love?

    Pexels Image

    Buy a dolls house
As well as making fantastic features in themselves, dolls houses provide endless opportunities for interior design. Even if you’ve never considered this before, it might be worth investing. After all, dolls houses provide the chance for decoration on a tiny scale. And, that can teach you everything you need to know, especially when it comes to colour. If you want to, you could even invest in some dolls house furniture similar to what you have in your home, and test out a few different layouts without breaking your back. And, best of all, this option allows you a blank canvas anytime you fancy it. Can’t say fairer than that.

    Get on the computer
If you have a technical mind, it might be worth heading to your computer here. After all, in an age where we can 3D print just about anything, you’d be stupid not to consider tech help with interiors. Even basic painting programs could help you here if you didn’t fancy the sketching idea. If you want to this further, programs like Sketchup will allow you to create and fill 3D versions of your rooms. This is like dolls houses for a digital age. And, you don’t even need to get dirty to achieve it!

Health, Finance, and Self: 3 Things All Adults Should Know

    adults should know

    adults should know

    Credit

A lot is said online about “adulting”, and most of it is unpleasant. If you were to believe the online memes, being an adult is a non-stop unpleasant slog that means you spend your life flitting from one responsibility to the next, but you can’t remember the last time you had any fun.

This isn’t quite true (thankfully!). While adulting can be difficult and irritating at times, it has its upsides; for one thing, adulthood is the time in your life when you’re fully self-determined and able to make your own decisions. Sure, the things you learn as an adult aren’t exactly the most exciting pieces of information, but they do give you the freedom to ensure your life runs as comfortably as possible.

With that in mind, let’s look at three essential aspects of three essential life areas that all adult women should understand to be important…

    HEALTH: Attending your cervical smear

Let’s be honest, cervical smears aren’t exactly the most exciting of experiences. No one looks at their calendar and exclaims: “ooh good, my smear test is today!”

However, smear tests are essential, and any adult should appreciate their necessity. Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be the case: attendance rates for smear tests are worryingly low, so there’s clearly a need for a gentle reminder as to this adulting necessity.

FINANCE: Never accepting an insurance renewal quote

Insurance renewal is something many people take for granted. It’s easier to just agree to whatever price your current provider has suggested, because the hassle of looking for alternatives isn’t something you particularly have the time for.

However, a key component of adulting is managing your personal finances. If you just accept your renewal price, you’re almost certainly overpaying. It’s important to do your recent, obtaining quotes from the likes of One Sure Insurance and considering your policy requirements on an annual basis. Sure, going through this process isn’t going to be the most exciting few hours of your life, but it could save you a substantial amount of money, so it’s worth doing!

SELF: Knowing when to ask for help

This final point applies to a variety of different “adulting” situations, from basic DIY to the management of your own health. Many adults fall into the trap of thinking that they should have all the answers, and that asking for assistance is a sign of weakness.

It’s important to acknowledge that, sometimes, you’re going to need help with something. This isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign that you know your limitations, which is a self-awareness that all adults require to make it through life successfully. By knowing when you have reached the limit of your understanding, you can step back and actually obtain the assistance you need, allowing you to move in the right direction. Asking for help is a smart decision, so don’t be shy about speaking up if you’re struggling with something.

    In conclusion

If you already know the importance of all of the above and action this knowledge, then you receive an effortless A+ at adulting. If there’s room for improvement, then it might be worth sharpening up your lifestyle management skills— your life will be simpler and easier to manage as a result.

Life Can Be Tough, But So Are You!

    Life can be tough

If there’s one thing pretty much everyone can agree on; is that life can be pretty tough at times. From work and money to relationships, there are always things about life that can be incredibly difficult. In fact, for a lot of people, it can sometimes feel as though things are just too much to deal with. As though they’ll end up getting buried by the stress and unpleasantness that life can sometimes dump on you. The question is, what can you do? How can you stand up to the slings and arrows that life can sometimes throw at you daily?

Well, here’s something incredibly important to remember that a lot of people end up forgetting. Life may be pretty tough, but so are you! No matter how much life throws you, you’re strong enough to stand up to it; just need to know how. That’s where the challenge comes in. You’re equipped with the tools to deal with life’s challenges; you just need to know how to use them. With that in mind, here are some of the toughest situation that life might decide to throw at you and how you can deal with them without falling apart.

    Work stress

    https://www.pexels.com/search/work%20stress/

If there’s one thing that probably causes people more stress than just about anything else, its work. Even if you love your job and get enormous amounts of satisfaction from it, you’re still going to have to deal with certain amounts of stress from it. After all, that’s why they call it work. If you want to avoid letting work stress dominate your life, the best thing that you can do is to try to create the best possible work/life balance. It can be a real challenge to unplug and leave your work at home when you leave the office, but if you don’t, then you’re going to end up letting it ruin a great deal of your personal life. The moment that you step your front door take off work along with your coat and don’t think about it again until you’re back at work. This can be a challenge, and it takes some work to master, but it’s too important for your own personal wellbeing not to do.

    Unemployment

Of course, you might have the opposite problem entirely! While the idea of not having to work might seem fun in theory, in practice it often means a great deal of financial panic. Not to mention the fact that many of us build our identities around out work which means that if losing your job means losing an aspect of your sense of self. The best thing you can do here is to be prepared. Have your CV updated and ready to go at a moment’s notice. That way you can start applying for new jobs right away. It can be tempting to spend some time wallowing in self-pity, but that’s just going to make the whole situation worse in the long run. Make sure that you jump back on that horse as quickly as possible.

    Relationship problems

Contrary to what Hollywood might tell you, relationships can be tough. They involve a great deal of hard work, compromise, patience, and communication. If you go into any relationship expecting it to be easy when you’re in for a pretty nasty surprise. One of the most significant reasons why people have problems in their relationships is that they fail to communicate with one another properly. If you can’t talk to your partner, they’re never going to know how you feel. Of course, there may come a time when things are just too bad to carry on which is where companies like Austin Kemp divorce solicitors come in. It’s not something that a lot of people want to think about but sometimes walking away is the best option you have.

    Losing a loved one

    Life can be tough

    https://www.pexels.com/photo/adult-alone-anxious-black-and-white-568027/

There are few things more awful and traumatic for many people than the loss of a loved one. Sadly, it’s also something that just about all of us may have to go through at some point in our lives. Death is something that most people would really rather ignore, but the truth is that there’s no way around it a lot of the time. The most important thing that you need when you’re grieving the loss of a loved one is time. You can’t force yourself to feel better or speed up the whole process. However much time you need to start to feel okay again, that’s what you need. If you need to take time off work, or you’re not able to keep up with some social commitments, that’s okay, as long as you’re taking the best possible care of yourself.

    Health problems

Most people would like to do just about everything possible to avoid confronting any potential health problems. Whether it’s because doctor’s offices make you uncomfortable or because you’d just rather live in blissful ignorance, ignoring potential issues with your health is never a good idea. Make sure that, no matter how minor your symptoms might seem, that you make an effort to get them checked out as soon as possible. Dealing with things early is going to make the whole process much easier in the long run. This doesn’t just apply to your physical health either, but to your mental health as well.

One of the most important things to remember is that no matter what it is that you’re going through, you don’t have to go through it alone. There’s a strange attitude that many people seem to have that says that if you’re not able to deal with every single problem that comes along completely by yourself, then there’s something wrong with you. And sure, there’s something nice about knowing that you were able to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. However, you should never feel as though you can’t reach out for help when you need it. Knowing that you need help and asking for it is one of the hardest and bravest things that you can do, and it’s also one of the most important.

4 Surprising Causes Of Sudden Weight Gain

    Causes Of Sudden Weight Gain

There is nothing worse than being on a diet and suddenly finding that it is not working. But perhaps one thing which could be worse is also not knowing why it’s not even working. If you have experienced this unfortunate malady, you will be aware of how distressing and concerning it can feel. The truth is that there are often a number of reasons behind weight gain which you would never expect, and it is worth knowing about as many of them as you can, so that you can do whatever is in your power to stop them from happening in future. In this article, we are going to look at just a few examples of the kinds of thing which can cause sudden weight gain, and help to put you off your course when dieting.

    Causes Of Sudden Weight Gain

    Pic Credit

    Stress

It is usually the case that we try to diet during stressful times in life. This is because it is these big, important life events which tend to push us towards things like dieting. However, in a way this does not actually help the cause, as it is proven that stress can have a negative effect on such efforts. We are not just talking about stress-eating here, although for many people that does certainly play a role. It’s more the fact that when you are stressed, your body releases the chemical cortisol – a somewhat toxic chemical which can actually have a number of negative effects on the body. One such effect is to increase our appetite – but cortisol also has a way of actually slowing down the metabolism. This makes it much easier to put on weight fast. Sofi you are hoping to slim down, remember to also calm down.

    Infection

You might not consider that infections can play a role in whether or not you lose your target weight – but they can. If you develop a certain kind of infection at just the wrong time, it can mean that you have a much harder time keeping the weight off – or even that you end up actively putting more on when you least expect it. To take an example from patient.info, one condition which can arise from an infection is hypothyroidism – also known as an underactive thyroid. When an infection gets too bad, it can lead to a virus called autoimmune thyroiditis, which in turn causes hypothyroidism. This then means that you are more likely to put on weight, and in fact that is one of the major symptoms of this condition. So if you are putting on plenty of weight, it might be worth checking to see if you have caught any viruses. If so, you can get the necessary treatment and then continue dieting.

    Insomnia

If you suffer with insomnia at all, you will know that it can have a huge effect on your quality of life. It is hard to fully appreciate the kind of suffering that insomnia can put you through unless you go through it yourself. One possible outcome of not sleeping much is that you put on a lot of weight quickly. There are two things to consider in order to understand this process more clearly. One is that being up late is often corresponded strongly with eating late at night too, and in this way you will obviously put on more weight. The other, however, is more of a hormonal issue. Suffering with insomnia brings about a change in hormones which in turn increases hunger and appetite, and makes you feel less full after eating. So it might be a good idea to look into getting some decent sleep therapy if you are struggling on the front. That alone could make a big difference to your dieting efforts.

    Medication

If you are on any medication whatsoever, you might want to look at the side effects to see whether weight gain is a likely one. It is for a huge number of medications, so it is definitely best just to check. However, it is even more likely for certain meds in particular – most notably, antidepressants and steroids. You should not stop taking antidepressants suddenly without medical advice, so it is best to first speak to your doctor if you want to change the amount you are taking. Similarly, steroids can cause other a temporary or a permanent change in weight, and if it is a concern you should again speak to your doctor.

Bear the above in mind when you are trying to lose weight, and you will find that it is much easier to do so.

Smoking is an incredibly harmful thing to do – it fills your body with carcinogens, pollutes the environment and is hugely addictive. However much you might think you feel better after a cigarette, your lank hair, wrinkled skin and tiredness beg to differ. The easiest way to quit smoking is not to go cold turkey – this is a health misconception that could even be damaging to you in the long run.

In fact, you are much better off switching to vaping. In the battle between smoking vs vaping, vaping gives you the nicotine hit you crave but doesn’t contain all of the chemicals and pollutants that cigarettes do. Over time you can reduce the amount of nicotine in your e-cig liquids to wean yourself off. This is much less traumatic and you are more likely to stick to your resolution not to smoke any more. Eventually, you will be on 0% nicotine liquids and essentially just inhaling flavoured water, a much healthier solution.

    Stop Drinking So Much

Alcohol is another addictive substance but for many people a glass of wine or a beer is perfectly normal. Lots of people drink every day and that doesn’t make them alcoholics, but you should think about cutting back on the amount of alcohol you consume.

As a guideline, men and women should not be drinking more than 14 units per week. This equates to 6 glasses of wine or 6 pints of beer. While this sounds like a lot, bear in mind that this is the upper limit so if you want to feel healthier, you should aim to reduce your drinking even further.

    Get More Exercise

If there is one thing you can do to improve your lifestyle it is to get more exercise. Now you might not have the money for an expensive gym membership and perhaps you think you don’t have the time to go for a quick run, but getting exercise isn’t limited to sports, there are lots of fun ways of incorporating more movement into your life.

Try cleaning with vigour, walking to work, taking the stairs instead of the lift or dancing around your living room. Any extra movement you can do counts, you don’t need a treadmill to exercise, you just need to get a bit out of breath and just a little sweaty to know you’re working hard.

With these simple tips, you are guaranteed to feel a bit better, have a healthier lifestyle and feel more alive. Get to it!
