Are you feeling tired all the time? Lacking in motivation? Just want to have a healthier lifestyle? We all want to live better and feel better but knowing what you need to do – and then doing it is vital for achieving your lifestyle of choice. Improving your lifestyle will take a few steps, but all of them are perfectly simple. The trick is to take each method one at a time, working gradually to a better way of living, rather than suddenly changing all at once.
Here are the priorities for 2018.
Cut Down on Smoking – Then Quit
Smoking is an incredibly harmful thing to do – it fills your body with carcinogens, pollutes the environment and is hugely addictive. However much you might think you feel better after a cigarette, your lank hair, wrinkled skin and tiredness beg to differ. The easiest way to quit smoking is not to go cold turkey – this is a health misconception that could even be damaging to you in the long run.
In fact, you are much better off switching to vaping. In the battle between smoking vs vaping, vaping gives you the nicotine hit you crave but doesn’t contain all of the chemicals and pollutants that cigarettes do. Over time you can reduce the amount of nicotine in your e-cig liquids to wean yourself off. This is much less traumatic and you are more likely to stick to your resolution not to smoke any more. Eventually, you will be on 0% nicotine liquids and essentially just inhaling flavoured water, a much healthier solution.
Stop Drinking So Much
Alcohol is another addictive substance but for many people a glass of wine or a beer is perfectly normal. Lots of people drink every day and that doesn’t make them alcoholics, but you should think about cutting back on the amount of alcohol you consume.
As a guideline, men and women should not be drinking more than 14 units per week. This equates to 6 glasses of wine or 6 pints of beer. While this sounds like a lot, bear in mind that this is the upper limit so if you want to feel healthier, you should aim to reduce your drinking even further.
Get More Exercise
If there is one thing you can do to improve your lifestyle it is to get more exercise. Now you might not have the money for an expensive gym membership and perhaps you think you don’t have the time to go for a quick run, but getting exercise isn’t limited to sports, there are lots of fun ways of incorporating more movement into your life.
Try cleaning with vigour, walking to work, taking the stairs instead of the lift or dancing around your living room. Any extra movement you can do counts, you don’t need a treadmill to exercise, you just need to get a bit out of breath and just a little sweaty to know you’re working hard.
With these simple tips, you are guaranteed to feel a bit better, have a healthier lifestyle and feel more alive. Get to it!
